UC San Diego computer science and engineering professor Ravi Ramamoorthi has been elected a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the world’s largest educational and scientific computing society. Ramamoorthi is the founding director of the Center for Visual Computing at UC San Diego.

The gift will allow teams of professors and graduate students at the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering to explore research at the intersection of deep learning and 3-D image reconstruction.

En Route to UC San Diego, Chinese Undergraduate Wins Award at SIGGRAPH 2017 ' in Absentia
Tsinghua Sun is making a splash even before arriving in San Diego to start the Ph.D. program. He was named winner in the undergraduate category of the ACM Student Research Competition at the 44th SIGGRAPH Conference on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques.

Professor Behind Online Computer Graphics Course among Finalists for 2017 edX Prize
For the second year in a row, CSE professor Ravi Ramamoorthi -- who holds the Ronald L. Graham Chair of Computer Science -- is a finalist in a competition for an online education award. The 2017 edX Prize for Exceptional Contributions in Online Teaching and Learning has whittled down all nominations to a list of 10 finalists worldwide among developers of online courses in all subject areas delivered via edX, one of the largest massive open online course platforms in the world.

Center for Visual Computing Has Major Presence at Upcoming Computer Vision Conference
Computer vision researchers from the University of California San Diego will have a major presence at the IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR 2017), with 20 papers on the agenda featuring at least one co-author from UC San Diego. Considered the premier forum for computer vision researchers, the conference will take place July 21-26 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
UC San Diego and edX Offer Professional Virtual Reality Courses Online
Virtual reality is one of the hottest emerging technologies in the entertainment industry today. Millions of VR devices have been sold in the United States alone, but most software developers have no formal training on the technology. Now, virtual reality researchers from UC San Diego are hoping to bridge that gap and develop in-demand skills via a new series of courses delivered through the edX online learning platform.
